YAM VARUVAL
YAM VARUVAL
This is a typical south indian dish. Varuval can be made by arvi,potato or raw banana. Spicy and yummy - this recipe needs less labor,and can be easily made. Here, i have prepared with yam or suran in hindi , which is very beneficial in treating health issues.
Preparation time:10 mins
Cooking time : 20 mins.
Servings : 2-3 persons
Ingredients :
- Yam/suran - 300 gms
- Tamarind/imli - lemon sized
- Coriander/dhania pwd - 1 full tsp.
- Cumin/jeera pwd. - 1/2 tsp
- Black pepper/kali mirch pwd - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric/haldi pwd. - 1 tsp
- Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli/lal mirch pwd - 1/2 tsp
- Amchur - 1/2 tsp
- Aniseed/saunf - 1/2 tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 full tsp
- Split black gram/dhuli udad - 1 tbsp
- Salt - acc. to taste
- Curry leaves - 12 to 15
- Oil - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
- Peel and cut the yam into 1/2 inch thick rectangular pieces.
- Boil enough water in a vessel,in which put the yam pieces, along with the imli,salt and 1/2 tsp of turmeric. Cook until the yam pieces get soft ---- but not over - cooked.
- Take all the pieces out of the water,and drain properly.
- Now,put the yam pieces in a bowl. Mix all the dry ground masalas,along with the ginger-garlic paste,except the amchur pwd into the pieces.
- Mix them properly. Keep at rest for 10 mins.
- Heat oil in a pan. Keep the flame on medium and put the aniseed into the oil. After it crackles,add the curry leaves and the dal. Fry a little or till aroma comes.
- Put all the yam pieces with the masalas into the pan.and stir properly. Mix and fry well keeping the heat medium for 5 mins.
- Add the amchur pwd and mix.
- Put off the flame.
- Serve with rice.
